Introduction:
Welcome to The Legend of Korra for the Xbox 360 G&RM. First impressions are everything, and if you are even the smallest fan of the Avatar/Korra series and the lore they carry you will enjoy this fun little title. Korra is back and she is facing a new evil, a new challenge, an old man? Well yes, this old man has a bone to grind with the avatar and has been working over 1,000 years to enact his revenge. We command Korra and her trusty sidekick Naga into battle against an anti-bender army, angry spirits, mech tanks, and some benders who don't like the avatar.

Overall the game is extremely smooth and fights well. The controls are easy to understand, but take some time to get used to and become effective with. There is just enough variety in the game to keep it from going stale, although the storyline is certainly short coming in somewhere in the realm of three to four hours for the first playthrough. I definitely went into the game thinking it would not be anything more than a quick gamerscore grabber, but was more than pleased by the exciting content, fun combat, and great lore. While the game is short, there are some achievements that will give us some problems, but we'll work together to get through them.

We will tackle the walkthrough in three main steps and a mop up:

  1. Normal playthrough gaining most of our achievements.
  2. Extreme playthrough finishing off the hard difficulty and snagging any other miscellaneous achievements.
  3. Pro-Bender tournament.
  4. Anything Left

In the Beginning there was Regular Korra.....
WARNING
I am making this bold and red to emphasize the importance of "Jill of all Trades." If you miss A SINGLE tutorial step you will need to RESET ALL YOUR PROGRESS and do a new game in order to unlock the achievement.
So what does this all mean? Every time you see tutorial goals on the left hand side of your screen make sure there is a red check through them before moving on or before killing too many enemies. You will unlock the achievement in chapter eight after learning how to use the avatar's true form. There is a solution provided by a fellow XBA member that may be able to save you from resetting everything, see the achievement guide for that solution.

Your first playthrough will rely heavily on learning the mechanics, understanding the different enemies' attack styles (there are not that many), racking up the spirit points, and maxing out your elements. So what's the deal with this first playthrough? Understand, conquer, expand, and strengthen.

First we have the stock storyline achievements. There are eight of them netting you a modest 120.

  • "Down and Out" - Chapter 1
  • "Escape from the City" - Chapter 2
    • "More than Hot Leaf Juice" for buying your first of many items from Iroh's shop.
    • "Ready for Battle" for equipping your first item.
    • "Zhu Li! Do the Thing!" for using your first item.
  • "The Power of Water" - Chapter 3
  • "To the South!" - Chapter 4
  • "Nowhere Else to Go" - Chapter 5
  • "Sure, Come On In" - Chapter 6
  • "That Escalated Quickly" - Chapter 7
  • "The Aftermath" - Chapter 8

You may also run through the 100 counters, 100 dodges, perfect Naga run, and a few others with the natural progression of the game which will save you time later. I will say that it may not be worth it trying to grind them out in the beginning because once your character is maxed out, everything will be much easier.

and then she rose to face the most Extreme Threat...
So we've knocked out a lot of the hooplah of the first playthrough. The main goal now is to simply fly through extreme difficulty. You will be able to soar through a majority of this playthrough, but alas there are a few sections that will absolutely test your resolve. Do not fear though, there are some tips and tricks for them too.

"Extreme Avatar" is the 100 beauty that we seek. By this point in the RoadMap you should be close to maxed out with regards to your elemental powers and should be close to masterful. I want to put the four best talismans used for extreme in a picture ahead of the list so you know what you should buy first when you have the spirit gems to afford it.

Top is Full Charge, HP 1/2 - Your Chi is fully charged at all times, but your health is halved. Recommended for Extreme mode.
Left is Healing - Slowly regenerates health while equipped. You'll feel much safer while wearing this.
Right is Charge Armor - Prevents all stuns, staggers, and knock-backs when your Chi is fully charged.
Bottom is POW x2, HP 1/2 - Halves your health but doubles your attack power! No one will be able to stop you with this!

I will list some of the biggest tips and tricks I found in list format:

  • Do not waste your time trying to counter any enemies unless it is a part of the required tutorial. Counter on extreme is not for certain and will end up costing you more precious life points. So what do you do then? DODGE!
  • During extreme your fingers should be glued to the and for attacking and some lonely finger on so you can dodge, dodge, and dodge some more.
  • One of the big areas for stress and frustration will in Chapter Five when using Naga and fighting the three mech tanks. It took me a long time to get a system down that worked and hopefully I can save you some frustration.
    • There are a few major things you should take note of. The first is that you should put up the water shield at all times during the battle. This is done by tapping .
    • Second major piece of knowledge to have is that you will dodge() almost every single attack the tanks launch at you. This is literally the only way to calm your nerve and survive long enough to get a streak going. Being as this is extreme, Naga only has a single bar of life.
    • Do not try and coordinate fire attacks while dodging their slam attacks that you must either jump or move over for. You will need to be on your best game to avoid hitting even one of the close to 100 ice blocks they will send your way.
  • The other big area of contention is during chapter seven when fighting the three mech suits as big spirit Korra. For this the only suggestion I have is to dodge and run away to regain health using the talisman combo above and to focus on one mech at a time using only your quick attacks.

Keep these little tricks in mind and you should be able to fly through the extreme playthrough without too many problems.

...only to relax to the sound of knock-outs in the pro-bending arena!
Our last full step will be to return to the pro-bending mini-games in the form of a three-tiered difficulty set. You must work your way up from the easiest to the ace rounds. Each difficulty has five games that you need to win in order to move onto the next difficulty. If you happen to lose you will go back to the beginning of the match you lost at, but if you quit out you will need to start the entire difficulty over. Refer to "The Fire Ferrets Strike Again!" when looking for tips and tricks to beating this element of the game.

Mopping Up Pesky Spirits, Costly Talismans, and Anything Else a Busy Avatar May Miss:
At this point you should only be looking at random achievements such as buying 12 talismans "Talisman Collector," grabbing 10 cabbages "My Cabbages!!," or obtaining all of the combos. This is the portion of the RoadMap where you will polish off the game with the understanding that you have completed "Jill of all Trades" already, otherwise you will need to start a new game.

Conclusion:
Overall the game is quite an enjoyable and actually has some tremendously addicting attributes. The combat is superior, the lore is top-notch, and the game overall is solid. Although somewhat repetitive, the short story will help you better understand Korra's role in the world, the people who want to do her wrong, and how we can help! The achievements should not take much longer than 15 hours, with some sections proving to be a bit harder depending on your skill and ability to get the controls and dynamics of the game quickly.

Thank you for following this G&RM and best of luck conquering all the evil. I want to also thank TheOnlyDogMan, The Duke of Darkness, and Nozza XBA for their tips, tricks, videos and help.

There are 30 achievements with a total of 1000 points

  • Completed Chapter 1.

Story related and cannot be missed.

This will unlock after you finish off your first Pro-Bender battle. You will need to win to progress pass this part of the game.

  • Completed Chapter 2.

Story related and cannot be missed.

After finishing your first Naga run this will unlock.

  • Completed Chapter 3.

Story related and cannot be missed.

  • Completed Chapter 4.

Story related and cannot be missed.

  • Completed Chapter 5.

Story related and cannot be missed.

The big factor to note in this chapter is the Naga vs. Three Mech Tanks section at the end of the chapter. There are tips at in the RoadMap to pass the mission on extreme, but they can be used successfully for the original playthrough as well.

  • Completed Chapter 6.

Story related and cannot be missed.

  • Completed Chapter 7.

Story related and cannot be missed.

  • Completed Chapter 8.

Story related and cannot be missed.

When fighting the final boss for the first time I suggest using fire to attack the boss when he is on the main platform. Take your time and allow yourself to regain health. You will need to use water at a distance as it is the only element that can hit him when he and his clones are out on the little rocks.

In order to get the SS trophy from the final boss you need to get at least a gold medal on the level which may be hard to do without the proper talismans, combos, and maxed-out skills.

  • Completed the game on Extreme difficulty.

You will need to have completed the game on Normal difficulty in order to unlock Extreme. The step from Normal to Extreme is downplayed by an increased prowess in your character by purchasing talismans, leveling up your elements (gaining more combos), and understanding the concepts of the game better.

I want to put the four best talismans used for extreme in a picture ahead of the list so you know what you should buy first when you have the spirit gems to afford it.

Keep these little tricks in mind and you should be able to fly through the extreme playthrough without too many problems.

  • Bought your first item at the shop.

Uncle Iroh sells copious amounts of tea... erm... items for Korra to utilize. You will need to progress a few chapters in the game to have enough points to purchase an item. Once you do have enough simply tap to enter his store, select what you want (you will end up buying a majority of the store as you progress), and pow--achievement unlocked.

  • Equipped your first item on the Korra's Room.

You will need to earn some spirit points first in order to buy anything from Uncle Iroh's store. (Remember to get to Uncle Iroh's store you need to press ). Once you do successfully buy an item you will need to go into Korra's room () and then tap on any of the D-Pad slots. You will then be able to select any of the items from your inventory to put into your quick select.

  • Used your first equipped item.

Tracing our steps, once you've bought an item you will have it on one of the four d-pad commands (, , , ). At this point all you need to do is be playing in game and click the button where the item is located at.

Fair warning--the only items you can technically "use" are the ones that are consumed after use. This means we are talking only the top row of Uncle Iroh's store.

  • Entered the Collection Screen for the first time after finding a treasure.

Treasures are found in chests throughout the different levels. These chests require either an element or some good ol' brute force to open them up. You should find your first treasure in chapter two as there are some that can be opened without the need for your element bending. After you complete the level, and you've collected a treasure, press when at the chapter menu to enter the collection screen.

  • Obtained all combos.

This is actually a bit easier than it sounds. About half of the combos will come from natural progression of your different elemental abilities. You will end up unlocking "Full-Baked Avatar" while on the path to grabbing this achievement as well.

So you do need to reach level 10 in each element in order to obtain the set of combos that come with the leveling, but you will also need to purchase from Iroh's store the other combos in the form of scrolls and books. There are two scrolls and one book per element.

    • Water (One book, three scrolls)= 90,000 Spirit Energy
    • Earth (One book, three scrolls)= 88,000 Spirit Energy
    • Fire (One book, two scrolls)= 110,000 Spirit Energy
    • Air (One book, one scroll)= 120,000 Spirit Energy
  • Maxed out all bending types.

Maxing out all bending types requires you to hit level 10 in all four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, Air).

This is not as difficult as it may seem. While you must get all four elements to level 10, they all carry over between casual, normal, and extreme playthroughs as well as the ability to replay any chapter at any point. While your normal playthroughs will yield you many of the levels you need, if you do find yourself wanting to get them all to the max quickly I suggest chapter six as it has a high amount of spirit enemies (large ones too that give immense XP) as well as a rather short length time (stretching no more than 10 minutes).

  • Purchased 12 talismans.

Twelve talismans requires you to buy out the bottom two rows of Uncle Iroh's shop. There are 13 available talismans (including the free one via code ).

So all together the 13 talismans will run you 1,210,000 spirit energy. This may seem like a lot of spirit energy, but overall it's not too bad. What I do suggest is getting very good at the first mission (intro mission) on normal difficulty. I was able to successfully play the mission getting platinum rating (and 45,000 spirit energy for completing) almost every time I replayed it. This is a viable option, although I concluded the game just shy of 1,000,00 spirit energy that I could not spend on anything so there is more than enough energy to collect while going for all of the other achievements.

What I do suggest is that you buy the four talismans suggested for extreme mode rather early on while also buying the scrolls and additions to the elements' different attacks.

    • Full Charge, HP 1/2 - Your Chi is fully charged at all times, but your health is halved. Recommended for Extreme mode. (300,000 Spirit Energy)
    • Healing - Slowly regenerates health while equipped. You'll feel much safer while wearing this. (120,000 Spirit Energy)
    • Right is Charge Armor - Prevents all stuns, staggers, and knockbacks when your Chi is fully charged. (160,000 Spirit Energy)
    • POW x2, HP 1/2 - Halves your health but doubles your attack power! No one will be able to stop you with this! (100,000 Spirit Energy)
  • Collected every treasure item.

There are 25 treasures to be collected for the achievement. Unlike traditional collectibles, these ones are based more off of random luck at the chests instead of exact pin-point locations, making this achievement a bit more luck based than grind based.

Small boxes can hold items ranging from C through a very rare S.
Elemental boxes can hold items ranging from B-S depending on the amount of damage dealt.
Golden boxes typically only hold A or S items depending on amount of damage done.
SS is awarded after beating the final boss.

    Black items are rated C.
Blue section items are rated B.
Red section items are rated A.
Yellow section items are rated S.
The tea-pot in the bottom right corner is SS.

  • Dodged 100 times.

You should not waste the time boosting this achievement in the beginning. You will dodge well over 3x the requirement amount after playing through the three major playthroughs. Remember--to dodge with either Korra or Naga it's simply .

  • Countered 100 times.

I would get your counters out of the way on the normal playthrough as they should be completely absent from the extreme playthrough. When enemies have a tell-tale red glow around them they are about to attack. When the attack is about to land on you that's when you want to press to successfully counter.

  • Went into Clash Mode 10 times.

Clash Mode is a form of combat when you are fighting other elemental benders only.

Sometimes when in close quarters combat with other elemental benders you will both hit at the same time. This will randomly trigger a clash mode in which you must utilize the to go in the direction shown on the screen in a pattern of three ways and then a double ( & ) to finish it off.

You do not need to win the clash for this achievement to tally--simply engaging in one will add one to your count.

  • Performed 100 Finishing Moves.

Finishing moves happen when you are able to either wind down your opponents health down to a very little amount, or for some of the stronger opponents, when you are able to stun them with a successfully string of combo/powerful attacks.

Above your opponents head will be a flashing indicating that if you are in close range, you can finish them. You should not worry about boosting this as you will definitely tap into it heavily in the extreme playthrough.

--Note that spirit bending dark spirits (using ) DOES NOT count for finishing move count.

  • Spirit-bended 200 dark spirits.

    Ability unlocked in Chapter 6.

Once you enter the spirit realm chasing the old man (Chapter Six) you will begin to encounter dark spirits. In the beginning of chapter six you will be given a tutorial on dealing with them. Essentially you bring them to a stunned phase before death when they turn yellow allowing you to bend them by pressing . Chapters five and six are ideal places to boost this if you do not have it after completing your two story playthroughs.

  • Went into Avatar State 10 times.

    Ability unlocked in Chapter 8.

Avatar State in this game is under-powered except in the key story locations when it is forced on. As such it should be looked at simply in the form of getting the achievement and not wasting time or spirit points on reaching often. There are two ways to get into the avatar state:

After chapter eight you fill your 'avatar' icon (top left white icon) and then tap and together to enter avatar state.
Purchase the Awakening ability from Uncle Iroh's store for 4,000 spirit points. Note that you can only have one purchased at a time so if you are going to boost you will need to activate the ability, play through the entire mission, and repeat. Quitting out will not work.

  • Completed a Naga Running sequence without hitting anything.

Naga is avatar Korra's companion. She is a large bear that replaces the redundancy of pounding bad guys' faces in by allowing you to race through locations. There are three chapters where you will race on Naga's back providing you with three increasingly difficult sequences to complete without hitting anything. They can be found in the picture below, although you need to do is play the practice version which can be selected after you select the respected chapters:

So let's deal with what you need to know for chapter two Naga run. If you hit anything at any point in the run you will need to replay the chapter to attempt it again. No resets, no checkpoints, one shot straight through. It's best to not worry about spirit points and focus on staying in the center and planning your moves out. If you attempt this later on with your reclaimed elemental powers be sure not to use the because of it's added speed and floating/flying which will add a new level of difficulty to the mix.

  • Got 10 knock-outs in Pro-bending matches.

Knock-outs in pro-bending matches come when you knock all three opponents out of the arena. There are two places in the main story where you play in pro-bending matches so this will most likely come in your third 'playthrough' when you go the three levels of pro-bending.

The best tip I could provide is to focus on one enemy at a time. Focus on getting one person back, then back more, then out. Not only will it make the fight easier, but it'll help you focus and ensure victory. You should also try to stand as far away from the person you are targeting as possible to make them less likely to focus on you and less likely to counter your attacks (having them attack one of your teammates is the goal).

Winning pro-bending by knock-out is the best way to get out of the mini-game so working toward the 10 necessary for the achievement will come with ease.

  • Won a Face-Off in a Pro-bending match.

Face-Offs happen when you and your opponents are tied in players and in points at the end of the round (meaning you are in the center of the map). Once these two conditionals happen Korra will face off against an opponent in a raised center circle.

This is a winner take all scenario that will determine who gets the round win. DO NOT JUMP! Jumping will open you up to getting knocked out of the arena with a single hit. It is best to simply dodge and unleash the flury of quick attacks to win the battle. This should not be too hard, but remember to dodge and attack until victorious.

  • Completed the highest difficulty of Pro-bending.

Pro-bending is reached by going back to the title screen and then going to the second option. You will need to complete the story in order to unlock pro-bending menu. Once inside the menu you will need to work your way through rookie, captain, and ace difficulties in order to unlock the achievement. Each difficulty has five matches to play.

You must either win by points (rounds/players left), or by knocking out all of your opponents in a round. The best course of action when dealing with this game is to target on opponent at a time and work them all the way off of the bending platform. By doing this you not only ease the rest of the battle, but you help yourself focus on supplying a large number of attacks and limit what you receive. I also found putting yourself to the opposite side of the map from your target as well as your teammates and opponents works to help you properly protect yourself from any attacks and gives you enough time to counter successfully.

The final big tip I have is to make sure your earth bending and fire bending are maxed so that your teammates have the best abilities and power possible as it does contribute to their efficiency.

  • Completed all tutorials.

Missable Achievement that will require reset of game to achieve if missed in first playthrough.

Possible solution for Xbox 360 only thanks to Tim O:

"If you miss this achievement on your first run, you can avoid starting a new game and erasing your progress simply by selecting another storage device when you launch the game. I moved my original save data to a USB drive, and when I started the game from the title screen, I created a new file on my hard drive and proceeded to beat the game on casual, completing the tutorials. Once I got the achievement, I deleted that save from my hard drive and moved the old one back from the flash drive."

Tutorials are the little guides from the game that you get as you play for the first time. They appear in a checklist format on the left hand side of the screen and become checked off with a red check when completed. I urge you to be very careful when playing for the first time when you have tutorials up on your screen. Absolutely ensure that you have done what it asks or else you will need to reset your entire game to rectify the mistake as I had to. If you follow each tutorial properly you will unlock the achievement during chapter eight when you are told how to go into the avatar state for the first time. If it does not unlock for you while you are in the avatar state you have missed something and will be forced to reset your progress at the end.

While you do have to reset your game to get the achievement be sure you have finished everything else before doing so. Also, you will only have to play to the point in the game where you missed the tutorial. For me I missed the combo tutorial in the very first pro-bender fight.

Many thanks to LukaLaurent for the video.

  • Collected 10 cabbages.

Cabbages are few and far between when playing the actual game through the course of the story. They fall under the category of lower level treasure (C to be specific). As such they will be dropped by simple treasure boxes on a random chance only. Lucky enough for us there is a way we can get around it and grind the 10 cabbages out after passing through chapter six.

I suggest playing through the entirety of your game and then reloading chapter six. Progress through the mission as usual until the point when you must face the two large dark spirits at once. After defeating them your camera will show you the path you traveled on becoming filled with dark essence pools. Once you regain control of Korra turn around and go backwards to the main area you just came from. (Do not worry on the exact location as one dark spirit will spawn). Once this dark spirit spawns quickly kill it and your reward will be a single cabbage. All you need to do now is run to the finish and complete the mission. Once you hit the main menu go back into chapter six and hit it again.

  • Jumped 100 times.

This one is rather easy and will absolutely come with natural progression of the game, but of course you could grind it right away. Simply press to jump. One down and 99 more to go.
