Introduction:
Skylanders Trap Team is the fourth installation of the Skylanders franchise. With a shiny new portal, this game introduces new Trap Master characters, who have access to special elemental gates in the game.

Story Playthrough:
First, you'll want to play through the story on the difficulty of your choice. There is a chapter-specific achievement in each chapter to unlock. If you miss one, you can replay the chapter from the chapter select menu to try again. Playing through the story will get you all of the story-related achievements and also unlock Nightmare difficulty.

Miscellaneous Achievements Clean-up:
During the story you naturally unlock some achievements like "Not Out of Your Element", "Wow, That's Tough!", "Road to Redemption", "Hero Master", "Skystones Scavenger" and "All the Way Up!".

As mentioned above, you can also replay chapters to get any chapter-specific or other miscellaneous achievements you may have missed.

Arena Battle & Kaos Mode:
Both of these can be accessed from the game's main menu or from the Skylander Academy hub-world by talking to Brock and interacting with the gold Kaos statue.

Battle Arena requires you to complete every level in all 6 Arenas. You also need to buy the last arena from Auric.

In Kaos Mode, you will need to complete all levels which will correspond to 100 waves and also defeat 100 Enemies.

Nightmare Playthrough:
Once everything else is done, start a new save file and choose Nightmare difficulty. You'll want to avoid any battles and fight only when necessary. Bosses battles can be challenging at times, so use as many maxed out Skylanders as you can and don't forget to use yours villains; they are very helpful.

Conclusion:
Like their predecessors, Skylanders Trap Team is a very fun and entertaining game. Most of the achievements are easy to get, some may take a few attempts, but if you persevere, you get the full 1000.

  • Chapter 3: Destroy 4 stone Chompy heads

During this chapter, there will be golden Chompy statues that must be destroyed. Three of them can be destroyed using movable cannons placed inside the Chompy Mountain. The fourth statue can be destroyed by pushing a large block off a stone bridge.

  • Chapter 4: Destroy 1 Dropship

In this chapter, there will be a battle on a big lower platform where drop ships will lower enemies for you to fight. Some of the drop ships, instead of dropping enemies midair, will dock near the platform; this is the opportunity to strike one. The drop ship will go down in flames after only a few hits.

  • Chapter 5: Destroy 8 Troll Transports during the flying sequence

As soon as you start this chapter, you will be on the turret of the Captain Flynn's ship. There are only 8 Troll Transports to shoot at and they are all clumped together at the beginning of the chapter, just shoot all of them down and the achievement is yours.

  • Chapter 6: Destroy 4 stacks of pipes using the crane on Dredger's Yacht

During this chapter, you will be required to use a crane to grab and throw some pirate enemies into the adjacent ocean twice. The second time there will be some stacks of pipes that you can grab. Just pick up four stacks and toss them into the water for the achievement to unlock.

  • Chapter 7: Collect 20 coins while following Marsha through the mist

After you save Marsha the fairy, she will form a shield for you to walk into the poisonous swamp. Stay in the shield and collect 20 coins. There are more than 20 so you can miss a few.

  • Chapter 8: Knock 12 Golden Balls off the waterfall in the Meditative Pool area

When you get to the part in the chapter with the NPC's in the booth wanting to play Skystones Smash, there's a crystal behind them you need to smash. Go through there, jump on the button and you'll be taken to the pool. In the pool, there are the 12 golden balls and a waterfall to the south.

You need to move the balls off the waterfall. To do so, switch to the smallest Skylander and gently walk into them to push them away. They are basic breakable objects and any attack will destroy them, so if you break one, you'll have to replay the whole level back to this point.

Each time you push a ball off, a few gems will fall from the ceiling. Push the last ball off and you'll get a pile of coins and the achievement.

  • Chapter 9: Shoot 20 Evilikin Runner during the flying sequence

After a small platforming section, you'll be put into a rail shooter where you blow up some cannons. During this you need to take out some Evilikin Runners; these guys are the tiny enemy fodder types. Simply focus on shooting as many as you can before taking out the target at each stop.

When you get to the results screen, the achievement will unlock if you've gotten enough.

  • Chapter 10: Travel to Splash Station without taking any damage from goo

For this achievement, don't be touched by the green liquid during the level. You must avoid all things with a slimy green coloration. This includes the Chompy enemies that can turn themselves into a pile of goo as well goo spillages, overflow pipes and the rivers of green goo. You should unlock the achievement after the last jump.

  • Chapter 11: Ride the train to the end of the line

You'll find yourself in an area with some trains. Simply stand on one of them and wait until it arrives at an area marked "The End of The Line", which takes only about 5-10 seconds.

  • Chapter 12: Destroy 5 Da Pinchy statues

The five statues that need to be destroyed are in the very first section of the chapter. These statues are all gold. The very first one is right in front of you as soon as you enter the level. Statues 2, 3 and 4 are on the island immediately to your left. Cross back on the beginning area and go right and take a bridge south. The last statue is on the left right next to a little house. There's actually more than five Da Pinchy statues in the chapter but the five mentioned are all right at the beginning.

  • Chapter 13: Take down every shield unit during the flying sequence

This achievement occurs near the end of the chapter. You end up getting into a spaceship-type craft and the objective is to shoot the cannons that are shooting at your ship. The cannons are protected by blue energy shields. There are about three rows of them that go all around the structure. You need to make sure that you shoot every blue energy shield before you shoot all the cannons.

  • Chapter 14: Complete the arena battle without getting hit by rocket exhaust

At the very end of the chapter, you will be in an arena and there will be four rocket exhausts that you must avoid. The four lines are where the exhaust will be released during the battle. Simply limit your fighting to the channels between the paths of the exhausts and you should be able to get this.

  • Chapter 15: Shoot down 30 Air Pirates without using rockets

When you start the chapter, you'll be thrown into a shooter part, but unlike the previous events, you can actually move around here. Your objective is to take out 30 enemies. Just don't use the rocket and once the section is complete, the achievement will unlock during the cutscene.

  • Chapter 16: Destroy 10 cacti

There will be two sections in this chapter where Cali will ask you to cover her while she runs across a wide open sandy area with a catapult. You're supposed to be using the catapult to take out the Chompy Worm going after her but instead use it first to take out the cacti. There are more than 10 cacti in the level. The first sequence of this event had 8 cacti in it and he will be 5 more in the second section.

  • Chapter 17: Complete all the tile floor puzzles without failing

For this achievement, you can't fall while crossing the brown squares during the puzzles phases. Cali will show you what blocks could crumble under your feet (marked with an 'X'). You must attempt all three puzzles in order to obtain the achievement.

  • Chapter 18: Collect 9 coins while falling down the Machine Heart

After getting inside the fortress and solving a few puzzles, you'll encounter a big red button. Kaos will tell you not to press it; the thing to do is press it. It will release the floor under you creating a small falling event. While you are falling, there is a small spiral of coins. This is easiest to do with a larger Skylander, like a giant, as their larger body mass makes it easier to grab the coins. You only get one shot at it so make it count! Otherwise you'll have to restart the chapter.

  • Complete Story Mode on any difficulty setting

Complete the game on your first playthrough and the achievement will unlock.

  • Complete Story Mode on the Nightmare difficulty setting

Nightmare difficulty unlocks after you've completed the game on any other difficulty.

First, select a new save file from the game's main menu and set the difficulty to Nightmare.

My advice for this is to be patient; don't rush into combat, focus on staying alive and try to avoid unnecessary fights.

Let the villains do the dirty work. As trapped villains use a regenerating bar rather than HP, they're the best choice to use in combat. This will be easier if you have a Kaos Trap which is very powerful.

The achievement will unlock at the results screen for Chapter 18. Good luck.

  • Defeat 100 enemies in Kaos Mode

Self explanatory. Play Kaos Mode and kill 100 enemies.

  • Earn 50 Stars in Kaos Mode

This requires you to complete 100 waves in Kaos Mode. This is a cake walk on Easy difficulty but it is time consuming. In these fights, you can lose towers and even the "Mystery Box of Doom" without losing. If the box is destroyed, a stronger and larger version of an enemy will be released. If you lose a Skylander, you can shift to a new one without losing your progress.

  • Unlock Brock's special arena

Brock's Special Arena is an item to purchase from Auric's Shop in the back of the academy. It comes available for purchase after finishing Chapter 14 and will cost 1500 coins.

  • Complete all Arena levels

Simply beat every Arena level to get this achievement. There are six arenas with four challenges each. Each challenge contain three waves of enemies. Arena 5, 'Quicksand Coliseum', is the most difficult. The final stage of the last challenge in this arena has a one hit kill, so movement is the key and don't forget to use your villains.

  • Unlock your first Elemental area

Near the beginning of Chapter 1, your attention will be directed to a water gate. Load up Snap Shot (the water Trap Master included in the starter kit) and when you come across the water element gate the achievement will unlock.

  • Capture 10 Villains

This is pretty straight forward with a twist. Beat a Villain in the level and use the specific Element Trap to capture him and you'll get credit.

If you do not have that specific Element Trap, the Villain goes into a Villain Vault that you can access later at the Skylander Academy. But the catch is you can move them from Villain Vault to a Trap later but it does not count as "Caught". They must only be caught in the level you face them to count as "Caught".

  • Collect 20 Skystones

This should unlock during your first playthrough. Each time you defeat a Villain in a chapter you will unlock a Skystone of that same Villain. Villains can be of any element and you don't have to trap them in order to get a Skystone. Do this 20 times and you are done.

  • Level up any Skylander to level 20

For this achievement, you must level up a Skylander to 20. You cannot simply place a level 20 character on the portal, you must level it up in-game. A great way to quickly level up is to play Kaos Mode.

  • Achieve Portal Master Rank 5

This will unlock during your first playthrough. Just play the game normally and it should unlock very soon.

  • Complete a captured Villain's quest

Each villain has a minor quest located in a certain spot in the chapters. With the respective villain, talk to the relating NPC, complete the quest. They'll do a little dance and this color will change.

In Chapter 1, you will encounter Sheep Creep as your tutorial for using traps. Capture him in the Life trap and continue to Chapter 3, Chompy Island. From the start, turn right and follow the path to the end. Sheep Creep's quest starts there. Finish that off and Sheep Creep will be redeemed and the achievement will be yours.
