Well, time has just flown by since arriving in Mexico! I don’t even know where to begin so here it goes, hope you enjoy!
The first two days we stayed in Mexico City, the company owns an apartment near their office which is in a huge tower off one of the main highways.
We went to a Spanish restaurant that was pretty good and definitely different.
They brought out some shrimp broth in a small cup as an appetizer. The shrimp flavor was strong! It wasn’t bad but not my cup of tea.
I personally would have used it to make some shrimp & grits!
They also brought out some potatoes that were covered in a blue cheese cream sauce, those were my favorite.
Since arriving in Valle de Bravo, we have eaten a lot of tacos!
They are literally everywhere. And they are super cheap, usually about $1 each.
We have also had a lot of Corona…they are only about $2 for a 1.2 liter bottle.
My favorite meal so far was probably brunch that we had at one of the hotels, I got Huevos Bendictinos!
It was really good and came with grilled veggies and a hash brown casserole.
So…on about the fourth day here, my phone fell out of my pocket getting out of a cab. About 30 seconds after walking in our house I realized what had happened.
I tried running after the cab but it was gone.
At this point we still didn’t have internet at the house but one of the guys here let me sign in on his phone to track mine.
It was heading away from us…several miles.
This was definitely a mood killer for only having been here a few days.
I tried sending a recovery message offering a reward for bringing it back but it was gone.
The next morning I went on a brisk jog (it’s hard to breathe at 5,000 feet above sea level) and felt much better about the situation. It could have happened anywhere.
So I made an insurance claim and we still had one guy coming from New Jersey the following Thursday.
My wife got the phone and took it to the store for shipping. In the meantime we got internet at the house so I could still communicate with my computer.
But then…after Leury received the tracking info he informed us his flight was leaving Tues morning and the phone wouldn’t arrive until Tues evening…
Oh well, I still had my computer and pretty much the same level of communication.
Although when he got here he was able to get an old phone from his cousin and I was able to connect it to a local plan, this was a game changer!
The CEO of this company likes to play a lot of sports!
There is this huge sports complex about 5 minutes from the house we are staying that has:
- a track
- basketball courts
- soccer fields
- a gym
- tennis courts
- volleyball courts
- play grounds for kids
It is a pretty cool spot and is free and open to the public.
We have mostly played basketball but recently established Olympic teams and also played dodge ball and hand ball!
I don’t mind it because I generally try to stay active.
We also live on top of a hill that takes about 15 minutes to walk up from the bottom. Imagine climbing the steps at the stadium for 15 minutes straight.
It definitely gets your heart rate up and lungs pumping!
I jumped on a scale the other day and I was down 8 pounds from where I was before I left!
I’m sure some is muscle loss since I’m not lifting weights but hey, I will take it!
This company makes money by purchasing internet based companies and scaling their cash flow.
They will then either hold onto the company if it makes sense or then try to sell it for a higher multiple then what they paid for it.
These are not small sites either, some have over a million in annual sales.
They are teaching us their exact process for acquiring these sites and all I can see, they have their s%#t together!
The spreadsheets they are having us work on are very detailed and as long as you don’t make an error in the due diligence process, you will have a pretty good idea of how much value you can add to the existing business.
They also have very lucrative relationships with other high-net-worth individuals which allows them to be very aggressive in the space.
It is exciting to see all of this and to potentially be a part of their next deal.
Well, that’s it for now, I will try to update again soon when I get a chance!
