Coming off the holiday shopping season, I had a feeling it would be hard to sustain those level of sales as the new year rang in.
I also haven’t had as much time to work on my sites since I was getting ready to go to Mexico, I had to tie up several loose ends.
Let’s see what happened:
Sales
- Adsense – $27.57
- Amazon – $355.49
- Amazon UK – £ 17.98
- Amazon CA – CDN 24.61
- Total – $425.65
So, my sales dropped to a little less than half of what they were in December. I knew they would go down but I’m OK with that.
My traffic went down a little but what really dropped were my conversion rates.
They went from almost 12% in December to around 7% in January. I think this is to be expected with a product related niche, consumers just spent tons of money on the holidays.
We see this in my family’s restaurant as well, January is the slowest month of the year for us.

Some positive things I noticed was that I started ranking on the first page for some more competitive keywords I was going after for my latest niche site which was in its seventh month in January.
Usually once people start getting tax refunds (around mid-February) we usually start see spending increase. I’m hopeful this will happen with my sites as well.
Expenses
- Professional Fees – $157.97
- Domains – $15.99
- Total – $173.96
I only posted a handful of articles last month, as I mentioned, the time was just not there.
Going forward, I found I do not have as much down time as I thought since arriving in Mexico but I am learning a ton!
I have gained access to spreadsheets that are really going to help me take these sites to the next level, as soon as I can apply the techniques lol.
For February, I’m not going to focus so much on new content but going back through my existing posts and optimizing them for search.
Just by updating the Title and Meta description, this company has seen huge increases in traffic from that alone. So, that will be my main focus.
Key Takeaways
I think January will always (hopefully!) be the slowest month of the year. I’m not too concerned as my traffic stayed about the same.
My conversion rates started picking back up at the end of the month so I’m optimistic that February will be better than January.
Going to try to increase traffic and conversions without writing much new content by applying some new techniques I am learning here in Mexico.
